For Your Cause
Hackathon

Technologists and designers give two days to build for nonprofits. This December, four organizations get a dedicated team and a working admin tool they can use on December 3rd.

About

Two days, one real problem, working software.

FYC Labs runs For Your Cause every Giving Tuesday. We select four local nonprofits, pair each with a team of volunteer technologists and designers, and give them two focused days to build something that solves a real administrative problem — the kind of work nonprofits rarely have the budget or staff to tackle on their own.

The goal isn't a demo. It's a tool the organization can actually use on December 3rd.

This December event builds on a hackathon FYC Labs ran earlier in 2026 in collaboration with Sacramento Venture Philanthropy and Folsom Tech Week. Watch the recap video.

2026 Hackathon recap

Earlier this year, FYC Labs ran a 48-hour nonprofit hackathon in collaboration with Sacramento Venture Philanthropy and Folsom Tech Week. Technologists, designers, and nonprofit leaders built practical admin tools for five local organizations, then presented them at a live showcase.

For Your Cause is that same model on Giving Tuesday: fewer organizations, a tighter admin-and-ops focus, and a working tool each nonprofit can take home.

Special thanks to the 3Strands team — Eric Johnson, Joel Megerssa, David Webb, and nonprofit lead Bernadette Opeka — whose mentorship helped shape those projects.
